Spain's DTT will get €35m

Spain's government will allocate €35 million towards expanding its Digital Terrestrial TV signals over the nation this year.

This investment is mainly addressed to complete the first phase of the country's DTT Transition Plan whose limit date for the analogue switch off is June 30, 2009. At the end of this period a total of 5.6 million Spaniards (or 12,6% of its total population) will have exclusively digital reception. At the same time the central government has already allocated soft loans and credits for €560 million for the development of transmission infrastructures in order to complete the national plan.

Francisco Ros, Secretary of State for Telecommunications and the Information Society said new technologies such as Internet and mobile phones "are discovering characteristics never existing before which will change in an intense way DTT's future". Mr Ros underlined that these changes "aren't either small nor superficial" and he assured they are being received "intensively" by the users.
